This is a fine painting on canvas by Michael Payne, currently of Wilmington, N.C. The painting depicts the Volkswagon bus that was used in the TV Series "Outer Banks". The bus is painted frontily on a stark background. It is painted in a deep brown with gey specks or repairs. It is in excellent condition and signed by the artist in the lower left.
Michael Payne, a retired marine biologist, spent much of the past 30 years living and working for the Federal government just outside Washington D.C. Following his 2017 retirement, he moved to Wilmington, N.C. While he has painted off-and-on for his entire life it was not until retirement that Mike was able to devote more time to oil painting. He set up a studio in their garage and neighbors can often find him there with the garage door open working on multiple canvases at a time. In just a few years, Mike has had several pieces accepted at the 2019, 2020, and 2021 Azalea Festival (the 2020, unfortunately, was canceled) and the 2019 and 2020 Art in the Arboretum. Recently an autumn marsh scene was selected to be one of a handful of artists and their paintings to be featured in an article in the November 2020, Wrightsville Beach Magazine. Recently much of his work has focused on a series of vintage VW minivans, wagons, and beetles that were part of the "Circle the Wagons" VW show in Wilmington, February 2020. These images have been well received and are unique within the Wilmington art scene.
