17th-century-carved-wood-portrait-bust
17th Century Continental Carved Wood Portrait Bust of a Woman

This seventeenth-century Continental portrait bust of a woman is hand carved from wood, probably lime wood, and finished in lacquer. The carving is well executed, and the sculptor's skill shows in how the figure is modeled and in the quality of the finish. Lime wood was a favored medium among European carvers for its fine, even grain, which allowed for crisp, expressive detail. Over three centuries old, this antique sculpture brings history and quiet presence to a library, mantel, or collection of European decorative arts.

Materials: Carved wood, probably lime wood, with lacquer finish

Dimensions: Height 12 in, Width 11 in, Depth 6 in

Condition: Good condition

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0527/8472/6186/files/Front_view_of_a_17th_century_Continental_carved_wood_portrait_bust_of_a_woman_with_swept_wavy_hair_and_draped_robe.png?v=1790953502
