This is a rare Regency period English penwork box, octagonal in shape. The top is decorated with a line border enclosing an alternating band of figural masks and foliage. At the center of the box is an eagle standing atop scrolled oak leaves. The sides of the top are drawn with a continuous Vitruvian scroll. The alternating panels are decorated with paired dolphins, griffins and chimera. Condition is very good with surface wear and losses consistent with the age of the box. It retains most of...
