Description Sales Policy

This American Impressionist landscape by Charles H. Richert (1880–1974) is titled "Summer Landscape New England" and dates to circa 1910–1920. It's oil on artist board. A quiet river bends through a sunlit meadow toward a line of trees, with a small house half-hidden in the foliage beyond. Richert painted the scene in summer golds, greens, and warm oranges. The broken, textured brushwork gives the water and grasses a shimmering quality typical of early 20th century American Impressionism. On the back is a paper label inscribed with Richert's name and "Mass." The painting is presented in its original gilt frame, which has raised decorative corner ornament. It's a fine example of New England plein-air landscape painting from the period.

This seventeenth-century Continental portrait bust of a woman is hand carved from wood, probably lime wood, and finished in lacquer. The carving is well executed, and the sculptor's skill shows in how the figure is modeled and in the quality of the finish. Lime wood was a favored medium among European carvers for its fine, even grain, which allowed for crisp, expressive detail. Over three centuries old, this antique sculpture brings history and quiet presence to a library, mantel, or collecti...
