Description Sales Policy

A signed American impressionist oil landscape by J. Vance Miller, this 1970 woodland scene captures Little Stony Creek in West Virginia with expressive brushwork and warm late‑summer light. Executed on canvas board and presented in a period frame, it is a fine example of Miller’s regional landscape work.

J. Vance Miller (1912–2002) was an American painter known for his evocative depictions of Appalachian scenery, working primarily in oil throughout the mid‑20th century. His landscapes often highlight the quiet drama of rural waterways and forested terrain.

  • Oil on canvas board.
  • Signed lower right; titled and dated on verso.
  • Condition is very good.
  • Dimensions: 12" H × 16" W (board). Frame: 16" H × 20" W.

A beautifully observed impressionist rendering of West Virginia’s Little Stony Creek, this work combines regional subject matter with painterly technique and strong composition. The signature, title, and date enhance its collector appeal.

A compelling addition to any collection of American impressionist or Appalachian landscape art.
